Keep Your Nails Strong and Sexy

When you write down your shopping list, as you punch a phone number into your mobile phone, while you wash dishes, do the ironing, clean the windows, or do one hundred other things that women do on any given day – do you take notice of the condition of your nails?

Our hands are such an integral part of our daily lives, and constantly, we risk their health and strength, often without even noticing, because of the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day activities. Take a few moments each day, or at least a few times a week, to monitor the condition of your nails – the color, the texture, the appearance of ridges or white marks.

Make a greater effort to take good care of your nails, and you will be thrilled with the way they complement your wardrobe and your own personal style. Consider the following tips as a way to enhance the health and quality of your nails.

General Tips

When applying coloured varnish always remember to apply a base coat. This not only prolongs the life of the colour you apply but also avoids nail plates becoming stained and also makes it easier to remove colour once you decide to change.

To keep hands moisturised use a good hand cream, ideally one that is not too greasy. This will enhance the appearance of nails and hands and give a healthy glow.

Purchase a good cuticle oil. Massage into cuticles everyday and behind the nail when hands are reversed. This helps nails to grow and keep the natural nail underneath strong and healthy. Will also make the artificial nails flexible so less prone to damage.

If you suffer from hang nails - these are small flaps of skin which are dead skin than can cause a lot of damage when caught and lead to infections if not treated. Mainly happens when hands and nails are not pampered enough as they should be. Massage in cuticle oil in designated area then once a week apply cuticle cream and push back the cuticle gently with a hoof or orange wood stick.

If your nails break at lot, I would suggest changing the shape of them. I would recommend that a square/square round shape should be created as these are then not likely to rip at the edges causing damage to the nail.

Don't store polish in a warm place as the polish will change consistency. Contrary to popular belief, it is a good idea to store it in the refrigerator.

The corner of your nails should never be filed.  Why?  Filing the corners of your nails will weaken the nail and you will find that they will break more easily as a result.
